Frequently Asked Questions

What is a marriage intensive?

A marriage intensive is a focused, private 2-day retreat designed to help couples make in days the progress that usually takes months of weekly counseling. You and your partner work one-on-one with a licensed marriage counselor in extended sessions that provide structure, safety, and momentum for real change.

How is a marriage intensive different from weekly counseling?

Weekly therapy can lose momentum, with couples slipping back into old patterns between sessions.
A marriage intensive provides immersive, structured work over two consecutive days with no distractions, so you can address long-standing issues, rebuild trust, and create a clear action plan much faster than traditional weekly counseling.

How much does a marriage intensive cost?

The 2-day marriage intensive is $6,997 per couple and includes eight follow-up sessions over 60 days.
Compared to months or years of ongoing therapy—or the financial and emotional cost of divorce—it is a cost-effective investment in your relationship.

What results can we expect in two days?

Most couples report:

  • clarity about their situation

  • powerful new tools for handling conflict

  • renewed hope for their relationship

These are usually results that take six months or more in weekly counseling. Many couples recommit to staying together after experiencing this “last chance” marriage retreat, supported by the 60-day follow-up plan.

What if one partner isn’t sure about coming?

It’s common for one partner to feel hesitant or unsure.
The intensive is designed to create a safe, non-judgmental space where both partners are heard and can gain clarity. Even if one person is ambivalent, the No Blame, No Shame process often helps both partners feel more hopeful and willing to engage after experiencing the structure and safety of the work.

Where do the marriage counseling weekends take place and who leads them?

Most intensives are hosted in our home office in Baltimore, Maryland, with additional options in PA, NY, OH, FL, TX, CA, CO, AZ, WA, HI, and internationally in the UK and Spain.
Couples can also attend online.

Retreats are led by licensed marriage counselors trained in marriage restoration, including our founder Rabbi Shlomo Slatkin, M.S., LCPC, a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist.

Is it covered by insurance or HSA/FSA?

We do not bill insurance directly, but we provide superbills for possible out-of-network reimbursement, depending on your plan.
Many couples also use HSA or FSA funds toward the intensive and follow-up sessions.

Who should not do a marriage intensive?

The intensive works best when both partners are willing to participate.
It is not recommended if there is:

  • ongoing untreated addiction

  • active domestic violence

  • a partner unwilling to participate at all

If you’re unsure, we’re happy to help you determine whether an intensive is appropriate.

You’re a Rabbi—is your counseling religious?

No. Although Rabbi Shlomo is a Rabbi, the counseling is clinical and non-religious, based on evidence-based relationship therapy rather than faith-based guidance.
We do hold traditional values around strengthening marriages, but the approach itself is not religious.

Can a couples therapy intensive weekend help after infidelity?

Yes. A 2-day intensive provides the focused time and safe structure needed to address infidelity directly.
Instead of waiting months for trust to rebuild, the intensive allows you to:

  • understand what led to the affair

  • process the pain in a structured, contained way

  • begin rebuilding the foundation of your relationship

The follow-up sessions help you continue the healing process after the retreat.
